Inspiration: gyro stabilised servo

Post by ahoeben » Thu May 13, 2010 8:48 am

This is one of the cooler things I've seen a servo do in a while:

The servo is modified with an internal gyro, and compensates its arm output for rotation of the servo itself. The modification is fully transparent to the controller; the servo still acts like a normal servo when it is not rotated.

The compensation is limited to the servo 180 degree total travel; it would be interesting to see something similar with a 360 degree/open encoder servo...

I know that MEMS gyro's have some drift issues that need to be calibrated out. I wonder if this device is stable over temp and acceleration drifting. Perhaps an accelerometer would work well for the noted camera application.
